Simple, DIY, Spaghetti Sauce
In continuation with my "Meatless May" series I am sharing my very simple recipe for spaghetti (or marinara) sauce. Seriously, it's so easy!
Spaghetti Sauce
1 15oz. can tomato sauce
1 14.5oz. can stewed, or diced, Italian tomatoes
1/2 onion, diced OR 1-2 tsp. onion powder
2 cloves garlic, minced OR 1-2 tsp. garlic powder
Salt & black pepper
1 Tbsp. dried parsley
1-2 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. dried basil
1/2-1 tsp. dried thyme
*If you are using diced onion and minced garlic begin by heating 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil in a large pan, saute onion until translucent then add the garlic and cook 1-2 minutes before adding sauce.*
1. Heat large pan on medium heat, add tomato sauce, blend stewed or diced tomatoes in food processor until smooth (unless you like a chunky sauce) and add to pan. Add the least listed amount of seasonings and bring sauce to a low boil, reduce heat and let simmer for 20 minutes before serving. Be sure to stir the sauce occasionally and adjust seasonings to your liking.
-Makes enough sauce for 4-5 pasta servings.
p.s. To make a meaty version simply brown 1-1 1/2 lbs of meat, drain grease, then make sauce.
